FAQ
How to Choose an Engagement Ring
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most meaningful purchases you'll ever make.
It's more than jewellery—it’s a personal symbol of love, identity, and commitment that will be with you forever.
Here's how to make a choice that reflects all of that, beautifully.
1. Do I Need a Specialist to Help Me Choose an Engagement Ring?
Absolutely. An engagement ring is one of the only things you’ll wear every day for the rest of your life. It reflects not only who you are as an individual, but what you value as a couple—your style, your investment in quality, your intent.
From understanding the difference between natural diamonds vs. lab-grown diamonds, to helping you navigate cut, setting, and craftsmanship—this is a rare decision that deserves expert guidance. Like with any major life decision, you need someone educated, experienced, and thoughtful—who asks the right questions, listens to what matters most to you, and helps you discover the perfect ring (even if you’re not sure what that looks like yet).
At Canturi, our diamond ring specialists and gemmologists in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane boutiques offer personal consultations to help you arrive at the perfect engagement ring for you.

2. Understand Your Style
Think beyond trends. Consider the details you gravitate toward—the architecture of what you wear, the colours, the way the ring moves between boldness and simplicity.
A truly perfect ring should feel like it was always meant to be theirs—timeless, but unmistakably personal.
3. Think Beyond the Solitaire
A natural diamond solitaire is a classic, but not the only option. Many Canturi clients are drawn to designs that express something more individual.
The Canturi Diamond Cubism Ring, for example, is a refined band of baguette and carré-cut natural diamonds—modern, sculptural, and deeply expressive.
For those with modern values who seek more than tradition, it's a meaningful alternative.

4. Consider the Stone – Natural Diamonds & Gemstones
A natural diamond is timeless—a stone formed over millions of years, with enduring value and brilliance. It's the traditional symbol of forever for a reason.
But for those drawn to intense colour or distinction, naturally formed gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds, and rubies offer something equally precious—and a little more personal.
Canturi’s clients often choose Australian sapphires or rare coloured stones to subtly, stylishly stand apart.

5. Choose with Intent
The most enduring rings are those chosen not to impress, but to express.
At Canturi, every engagement ring is designed with purpose - timeless modernity. These are pieces created with intent, not to follow trends, but to become part of your story.
6. How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?
We believe that an engagement ring should reflect your values, financial comfort, and commitment.
While engagement ring pricing can vary, the most important consideration is selecting a ring that resonates with your love story—whether a solitaire diamond ring or a statement gemstone engagement ring.
The right ring is not defined by a number—it’s defined by meaning.
8. Let the Process Be Meaningful
This isn’t a transaction—it’s the beginning of something extraordinary.
Whether you start with a clear vision or an open heart, our specialists love the journey and are here to help you with clarity, warmth, and connection to the artistry. You'll remember this unique experience for the rest of your lives.

How to Choose the Perfect Diamond
Choosing a natural diamond for your engagement ring is about more than just sparkle—it’s about investing in a rare and valuable piece that both reflects your love story and forms part of your generational wealth.
But how do you know which diamond is the one?
Enter the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat—four key elements that define a diamond’s beauty, brilliance, and value. Understanding them will empower you to choose a GIA-certified diamond that embodies exceptional quality, enduring beauty, and investment-worthy rarity.
1. CUT: The Art of Light & Brilliance
Why it matters: The cut of a diamond determines how it reflects light, giving it that irresistible sparkle. A masterfully cut diamond maximises brilliance, ensuring every facet catches the light beautifully.
What to look for: GIA grades diamond cuts from Excellent to Poor. For maximum fire and brilliance, always opt for Excellent or Very Good cuts.
Pro Tip: If you’re drawn to that effortless, radiant glow, prioritising cut over carat weight will give you the most dazzling effect.
2. COLOUR: The Purity of a Diamond’s Hue
Why it matters: Diamonds range from icy white to warm-toned hues. The less colour, the rarer and more valuable the diamond.
What to look for: GIA grades diamond colour from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). The sweet spot? D-F for an ultra-luxury, colourless look or G-H for a stunning balance of value and beauty.
Pro Tip: If your setting is yellow or rose gold, you can opt for a slightly warmer diamond (G-H) without compromising visual beauty.
3. CLARITY: The Unique Fingerprint of a Diamond
Why it matters: Diamonds are formed over millions of years under immense pressure, so natural inclusions (tiny internal features) are expected. Clarity determines how flawless a diamond appears.
What to look for: GIA grades clarity from Flawless (F) to Included (I3). The best balance? VVS1-VS2—imperfections are microscopic, maintaining pristine beauty.
Pro Tip: Many inclusions are invisible to the naked eye. Instead of chasing perfection, opt for an eye-clean diamond (VS1-VS2) and invest more in cut and colour.
4. CARAT: The Weight, The Presence, The Impact
Why it matters: Carat refers to the weight, not size of a diamond. While bigger is often better, proportion, cut, and quality matter just as much.
What to look for: Instead of fixating on whole numbers (1.00ct, 2.00ct), look for “magic sizes”—like 0.90ct or 1.90ct—for significant savings without sacrificing look.
Pro Tip: Prioritise cut and balance over sheer size—a well-cut 1.50ct diamond will outshine a poorly cut 2.00ct every time.
THE GIA CERTIFICATE:
Why It’s a Must-Have
Think of a GIA certificate as your diamond’s passport, pedigree, and proof of authenticity all in one. Issued by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)—the world’s leading authority on diamonds—this report provides an unbiased, scientific evaluation of your diamond’s 4Cs, origin, and characteristics. Why You Need One:
Guaranteed Authenticity—Verifies that your diamond is 100% natural.
Confidence in Quality—Ensures you’re getting exactly what you paid for.
Resale & Heirloom Value—A certified diamond retains value over time.
Peace of Mind—Trust in the world’s most reputable gemological standard.
Pro Tip: Every GIA-certified diamond comes with a laser inscription on the girdle, matching its report number—so your diamond is always traceable and uniquely yours.

A Comparison - Natural vs. Lab-Grown Diamonds
For most couples, an engagement ring is their first major investment together, a decision that marks the beginning of building generational wealth. But with so much conflicting information about natural vs. lab-grown diamonds, how do you make the right choice?
The Canturi heritage began over three decades ago by creating some of the desired diamond engagement rings in Australia. After decades at the forefront of luxury diamond rings, studying market values, sustainability, and long-term worth, we’ve guided thousands of clients through this very decision.
What we’ve learned is that the answer to whether to choose a natural or lab-grown diamond engagement ring comes down to asking yourself one simple question:
Why are you buying this diamond ring?
Your answer will guide you to the choice that aligns with your values, your relationship, and your future. After decades of caring for our clients, these are the most common reasons—do any resonate with you?
A symbol of love & commitment—chosen with the intention that she will wear it for life.
A legacy investment—the first step in building generational wealth with something rare, important, and valuable.
A future heirloom—a piece that her children will associate with her, to be passed down as a family heritage jewel.
A purchase that retains value—ensuring your choice does not significantly decline in value or become worthless over time.
An environmentally responsible choice—knowing that natural diamonds are the result of mining advancements, while lab-grown diamonds require extreme energy consumption, powered by fossil fuels.
A reflection of the giver—showcasing his values, success, and commitment.
Why Canturi Clients Choose Natural Diamonds
At Canturi, we have always responded to the desires of our clients—those who seek the rarest, most meaningful, and most valuable pieces to symbolise their love.
A lab-grown diamond may be a choice for fashion jewellery, or a trend.
But if your reasons for buying a diamond ring run deeper—if this is about forever, about building your life together, about legacy—then the choice of a natural diamond becomes clear.
Canturi clients are not convinced by the simplistic sustainable 'green' claims by the lab grown diamond factories that are not valid and misleading.
For over three decades, we have designed unique engagement rings exclusively with natural diamonds, honouring the significance of a ring that will be worn for a lifetime and treasured for generations.

Which Hand Do You Wear an Engagement Ring On?
Traditionally, the engagement ring is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand—often called the “ring finger.” This custom stems from an ancient belief that a vein connected that finger directly to the heart.
But around the world, the tradition varies. In many Asian cultures, including China, Japan and India, the engagement ring is often worn on the right hand. The same applies in parts of Eastern Europe and South America, where wearing an engagement ring on the right hand is a long-standing practice.
So, which hand should you wear your engagement ring on?
The answer is beautifully personal. Whether you follow tradition or your own instinct, the most important thing is that your ring feels right for you.
At Canturi, we honour the diversity of customs and the individuality of our clients—each engagement ring is designed to reflect the wearer, no matter which hand it's worn on.
Can Men Wear Engagement Rings?
Absolutely—and more men are choosing to wear engagement rings than ever before.
Whether as a symbol of love, equality, or personal style, an engagement ring is simply a meaningful way to mark a commitment—no matter your gender.
Canturi is a destination for Men’s fine jewellery.

How to Clean a Diamond Ring
A diamond ring is more than just jewellery—it’s a symbol of love, worn every day.
Naturally, a little care goes a long way in keeping it luminous.
Best Way to Clean a Diamond Ring at Home
1. To clean your diamond ring at home, fill a bowl with warm water and a drop of mild, non-moisturising dish soap.
2. Soak the ring for 15 to 20 minutes to loosen any residue.
3. Then, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean around thediamond setting, including the underside where buildup tends to gather.
4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid ultrasonic machines at home and steer clear of abrasive cleaners or chemicals—particularly if your ring features pavé diamonds, delicate craftsmanship, or coloured gemstones.

What is Bridal Jewellery?
Bridal jewellery refers to the pieces a bride wears on her wedding day—chosen to complement her gown, reflect her personal style, and often honour cultural or family traditions.
It typically begins with the engagement ring, followed by the wedding ring, and may include diamond earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, or a statement piece that adds a touch of individuality.
In many Western weddings, bridal jewellery is refined and timeless.
In Asian and Indian cultures, it may be bold, symbolic, and richly layered.
Whether it’s a classic diamond ring, a sculptural necklace from Canturi’s Cubism collection, or a bespoke heirloom design, bridal jewellery is more than adornment—it’s a personal expression of the bride’s story, style, and commitment.
Does Canturi use 'Conflict-Free' diamonds?
Canturi ensures all diamonds purchased are from those sources that adhere to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme of the World Diamond Council.
This international system was created to monitor and eliminate the trade of "conflict diamonds".
It applies to all rough diamond mined since January 1, 2003 and requires these to be sealed in separate containers and accompanied by numbered certificates to guarantee the diamonds are conflict free.
Canturi applies this system guaranteeing that all diamonds being sold are from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions.
